Four Generations of Optical
The Singer Family has been invovled in optical more than 100 years, with Fred's father, Earl, working as a lens rep for Contenental Shuron Lens Manufactures in the 1920s. Fred began Singer Optical on the advice of his father, in Evansville, Indiana in 1948 upon returning from WWII. With a passion for service and innovation, Fred took the time to understand the needs of independent eye care professional, and put a superior product in their hands to dispense to patients.
Fred was a pioneer in the move from glass to hard resin plastics in the optical industry. He even would go on to patent a device that would allow plastic bifocals to achieve more acurrate PDs and segment heights for the large frame styles popular in the 1970s.
Fred's two sons Roger and Martin would enter the business and help grow the roots Fred established. Never loosing sight for service, the two brothers worked hands on in the business, calling on accounts, being available to answer questions, and using resources available to them to keep quality and service top tier.
Much like how Fred was a pioneer to the glass to plastic lens movement, Roger and Martin were pioneeers to the digital free form lens revolution. Singer Optical was one of the first labs in the United States to invest in digital free form techonologies.
Today, Martin and his son Ben continue the legacy. Singer Optical has chosen to be proudly independent and want to be a resource to ECPs nationwide. We continuously reinvest back into our lab's capacities and capabilities, we listen to the resources we have in order to properly educate accounts. We put people over profits, performance over brands, service over sales.
